I'm back!

So, it's been a while since I posted anything huh? Well it is now 2014, a new year and hopefully the start of good things to come. Last year was the most horrific and traumatic year for me in my 37 years on this Earth. In June I was diagnosed with stage 1B esophageal cancer. I was so very lucky having had it found at such an early stage! I underwent 6 weeks of chemo/radiation and spent my summer in St. Louis with my BFF/caregiver Amanda. On November 12th I had part of my esophagus and stomach removed and then reattached. That was the most traumatic part for me. I'm not sure which is worse, the pain from being internally mutilated or this liquid diet I'm being forced to be on. Although my family made a Thanksgiving dinner for me before my surgery, I would have liked to enjoy it on the day. I was then admitted to the hospital on December 24th for dehydration and spent Christmas in the hospital. I had to have a small procedure on the 26th to dilate my esophagus and pylorus. My stomach was emptying too slowly causing me to get sick when I ate. I am currently still on the liquid diet until I see my surgeon on the 15th of January. I have to admit though I've been sneaking some soft foods. A person can only take so much blended food! If I ever have to get my jaw wired shut im in trouble. The only good that has come from 2013 is that I have lost over 100 much needed pounds! Since my stomach is smaller and I cannot eat as much food, I will continue to lose. I still enjoy my food and will continue to take pics of all the good places I run across. I also have quite a few places to post from last year when I was able to eat!
